Changing Address On Car Registration In Connecticut
How to change the address on car registration in Connecticut
The Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles is very concerned about having a current address on file for your car registration. In fact, the DMV requires you to notify them within 48 hours of a move. So make sure you put this at the top of your list.
Updating your address at the Post Office is good and necessary, but this will not automatically update the address on your car registration. You must do this separately, and as soon as possible. Luckily, it is easy to do, and there is no charge to change the address on your car registration in the state of Connecticut.
To change your address, simply hop online to the DMV's website and print out and complete the change of address form. There are two very important items you must remember:
- Include your full legal name. This includes any maiden names, if they are listed as your legal name.
- If there are two or more drivers registered for the same vehicle, each driver must list their full legal names, and sign it. No applications will be accepted that are not signed by both drivers.
If you do not change the address on your car registration when you move into Connecticut, you will not receive your property tax bill. Not paying your property tax bill on time will cost you a late fee, and a possible suspension of your registration. So update the address on your car registration as soon as possible.
